WHICH VERSION OF HOOD IN CASE OF VMC SYSTEM?
What is VMC? ‘Controlled Mechanical Ventilation’. It is a ventilation system used in homes to ensure a constant and controlled change of air. It works through a system of fans and ducts that suck in stale air from damp areas (e.g. bathrooms, kitchens) and replace it with fresh air from outside.
In the presence of a VMC system, is it better to choose a filtering or a suction hood?
A Filtering hood, because it does not create depressions, certainly does not create problems. A Suction hood, by natural operation, expels air, creating a depression. Since we do not know the system in detail, we cannot indicate which model of extractor hood to install. An extractor hood can create a depression in the room that reduces the air flow of the VMC system to such an extent that the efficiency of the VMC could be reduced: the VMC would not be able to function correctly if the air flow is reduced.
CONFLICT SOLUTION
We therefore suggest using the non-return valve in the case of an extractor hood, which prevents the air suctioned from the hood from being fed back into the room via the VMC system. The air flow rate of the extractor hood must be adjusted according to the firing level and the air flow of the VMC system.
CONCLUSION
Both filtering and extractor hoods can be installed. In any case, but especially in the second case (extractor), consult an experienced installer: An experienced installer can assess the situation and advise on the best solution to avoid a conflict between extractor hood and VMC. With proper installation and adjustment, both systems can be used effectively to improve air quality in the home.
